The Institute of Philosophy participated in the Workshop «Challenges and Opportunities for Science and Religion in Latin America,» organized by the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion at the University of Oxford. This workshop served as the conclusion of the three-year project «Science and Religion in Latin America» and took place from September 5th to 7th, 2013, at the Harris Manchester College of the University of Oxford.

This event brought together researchers in the field of science and religion from Latin America, Europe, and the United States with the aim of planning future research activities and developing medium- and long-term strategies in Latin America.

There were two days of guided discussions. On the first day, the focus was on the current state of science and religion in Latin America, the prevailing challenges and issues, and the differences compared to the rest of the world. On the second day, the participants discussed the priorities for Latin America and the need to strengthen projects in the region, such as the creation of an academic network for research and collaboration in Latin America that would be connected with the European and North American academic community. Claudia Vanney and Juan Francisco Franck presented their project, «Determinism and Indeterminism: From Science to Philosophy,» which is being conducted at the Institute of Philosophy of the Universidad Austral, during these sessions.
