Psychometric Evaluation of the Spanish Version of the Perception of the Cognitive, Social and Emotional Aspects of Religious Attendance Scale.
Religiousness is a multidimensional construct that is rarely evaluated as such. In Psychology when assessing religiosity, the scales focus on the behavioral, social or cognitive aspects, leaving aside the emotional component. Van Capellen and colleagues (2016) developed the “Perception of the Cognitive, Social and Emotional Aspects of Religious Attendance” scale to evaluate the cognitive, social and emotional components, specifically positive emotions experienced at the Catholic Mass. This study was designed to evaluate the psychometric properties of Spanish version of the Perception of the Cognitive, Social and Emotional Aspects of Religious Attendance Scale. The sample includes 341 participants, aged 30 to 90 years old, of middle socioeconomic class. All of them were Catholics from Argentina. Exploratory factor analyses suggested a three-factor structure for the scale. The scale showed a satisfactory internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Significant and positive correlations were observed between Perception of the Cognitive, Social and Emotional Aspects of Religious Attendance Scale, and the Index of personal religiousness by Saroglou and Muñoz-Garcia, (2008). The results suggest that the Perception of the Cognitive, Social and Emotional Aspects of Religious Attendance Scale is reliable and valid and that it can be used for the Argentinian population.
