On November 10th took place the last meeting of this year’s seminar with the lecture “Self, subjectivity and person”, by José Eduardo Moreno. The previous meeting was in charge of Juan Ignacio Blanco Illari, who spoke about: “Idem-Ipse: two models of identity”.
This year’s meetings started on May 26th, with the open lecture by Dr Eleonore Stump (University of St. Louis – USA), entitled “Mind-reading and empathy and the knowledge of persons”, addressing the topic of the capacity of reading other people’s intentions and the function of the mirror neurons, and how this capacity is affected in people within the autism spectrum. Dr Juan Francisco Franck was in charge of the second meeting, on July 7th, and he discussed “The ‘naturalisation’ of consciousness”.
Dr Juan José Sanguineti (Pontificia Univeristà della Santa Croce, Roma) was also invited. He gave an open lecture on August 11th at the Universidad del Norte Santo Tomás de Aquino. On this occasion the meeting was organized jointly with the Center for Studies in Philosophy and Theology of the Order of Preachers (UNSTA), and entitled “Neuroscience and Anthropology”.
Finally, Dr Ángela Suburo and Dr Nora Grañana gave their contribution to the monthly seminar from the standpoint of Neuroscience, speaking about “The enhanced brain” and “Neuropsychology of decision making and social cognition”, respectively.
Throughout the year, over a hundred academics and students have participated in the seminar, interested in these subjects that are part of the project “The brain and the person”. Next year we will resume the activities of the seminar on Thursday 16 March, with a meeting in charge of Dr Georg Gasser (University of Innsbruck, Austria), entitled “Robust Minimal Agents”. This conference will be delivered in English.
